Douglas-Home, the Tory statesman, relinquished his title as 14th Earl of Home in 1963 to become Prime Minister (1963-4). Having served as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs under Macmillan (1960-3), he returned to the same office under Edward Heath (1970-4).
