Yehudi Menuhin, Baron Menuhin

Sitter in 45 portraits
Internationally renowned violinist Menuhin was born in New York, and first played with an orchestra at the age of seven. He maintained an international reputation throughout his life, playing with most of the world's major orchestras. During the 1950s Menuhin performed at the Aldeburgh Festival, and Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears joined him for concerts at the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, which he established in 1957. Menuhin also went on to establish the Bath Festival in 1959, and the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music in 1963. In 1968 he performed Britten's Violin Concerto at the Edinburgh Festival.
