(1937-), Actor; daughter of Sir Michael Redgrave

Daughter of actors Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, and sister of Lynn and Corin Redgrave, Vanessa Redgrave's film debut was in Behind the Mask (1958). With the Royal Shakespeare Company she performed in As You Like It (1961), The Taming of the Shrew (1961) and Cymbeline (1962). In 1966 she appeared in Antonioni's film Blow Up and was Oscar-nominated for her role in Morgan: a Suitable Case for Treatment. Her Oscar-nominated successes include Isadora (1968), Mary, Queen of Scots (1971), Julia (1977), The Bostonians (1984) and Howards End (1992). Married to director Tony Richardson from 1962-7, their daughters Natasha and Joely Richardson continued the Redgrave acting tradition.
