Painting by Benjamin West, three-quarter length seated. ING Bank NV, London (H. von Erffa & A. Staley, The Paintings of Benjamin West, 1986, no.587). Cut from a group portrait of Baring’s family containing six figures; exhibited Third and concluding exhibition of National Portraits (fortieth year of the reign of George the third to MDCCCLXVII), South Kensington, 1868 (47) lent Lord Northbrook. Enamel copies by Henry Bone dated 1804 and 1806 (private collection, and Christie’s, 6 July 1965, lot 32; preparatory drawing in the NPG Bone albums (R. Walker, 'Henry Bone's Pencil Drawings in the National Portrait Gallery', Wal. Soc., LXI, 1999, no.29).
