Elizabethan England
This long gallery, redesigned by Dixon Jones as part of the Ondaatje Wing redevelopment in 2000, covers the long reign of Elizabeth I from 1558 to 1603. The Coronation Portrait from around 1559 at the entrance to the room and the Ditchley Portrait from around 1592 frame the rest of the display. Amongst other important portraits is a full-length portrait of Drake marking how Britain became a world power.
