Room 37Dedicated to portraits of people connected with the arts the current display in this room also incorporates portraits of sitters who have held public office or worked in the law. A silver portrait mask representing Lord Bingham, formerly Britain's senior Law Lord, is displayed alongside paintings of writers including Sir John Mortimer, who also worked as a barrister, and novelist P.D. James, who was a civil servant for many years. Many of these portraits were commissioned by the Gallery, and include works by past winners of the BP Portrait Award.
