The original work was made in 1657 by Jan van Broeckhost as a gift from the duke to the Saint-Sebastian shooting guild where he became member in 1656. The painting still exists.
In 1660, after the sudden dead of te duke on the 13tn of September of the smallpox (?), a copy was made by Pauwels Ryckx and paid for by the guild : Betaelt aan Pauwels Rycx de somme van drie ponden zes schellingen acht grooten over reste ende volle betaelynghe van het conterfaitsel vanden Hertog van Clochester…
