Thomas “Tom” Henry Marlowe (18 March 1868 – 3 December 1935) was a British journalist and newspaperman, who served as News Editor and then Editor of the Daily Mail from 1896 to 1926 and was also Chairman of Associated Newspapers Ltd. Educated in Dublin, Queen’s College Galway and the London Hospital, he abandoned his medical training to join the Star as a reporter in 1888, moving to the Evening News in 1894. An exemplar of the “New Journalism” of the time, he was appointed News Editor of the Daily Mail soon after it was launched in 1896, being promoted to Managing Director / Editor in 1899. He retired in 1926 and died 9 years later, at sea between Britain and South Africa, where he was travelling for health reasons.
