This posthumous uniface medal by Lanteri was a tribute to the sculptor Joseph Edgar Boehm, whose studio he had joined on coming to England from Paris in 1872. Modelled shortly before Boehm's death in 1890, Lanteri has lightly sketched in a sculptor's mallet and laurels to the side of the head. He remained adverse to the mechanical aspect of the striking process; the bold handling and irregular circumference of this medallion is typical of his output. James Moore at the Thames Ditton foundry was responsible for casting the British Museum's example of this medal and may have cast this and other medals for Lanteri.
