Pathologist; Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander in the RNVR, served in the RN Hospital, Haslar (1915-19), awarded OBE (1919); member of the scientific staff, Medical Research Council (1934-49); Fellow of the Royal Society and author of works on haemophilia and syphilis. The artist is the sitter's father. Bequeathed by the sitter, 1971.
