The engraver, George Vertue, saw a bust of 'Mr Isaac Ware Architect' in Roubiliac's studio in 1741, one of several which he described as 'very exact Imitations of Nature'. However, it now seems likely that this bust is a copy, probably of the one seen by Vertue, rather than the original.
