This is a scaled down version of the life size bronze The Artist as Hephaestus, commissioned by London and Bristol Developments in 1987 for their offices at 34-36 High Holborn. Hephaestus or Vulcan was the Graeco-Roman god of fire and maker of weapons for heroes, He taught man to use fire, and was the protector of craftsmen. The figure relates to a monumental bronze, The Artist as Hephaestus, which is in High Holborn, London.
