This portraitback to top
Pellegrini made this self-portrait while he was travelling on the Continent. The penetrating gaze and powerful presence conveyed in this painting fits the antiquary George Vertue’s description of the painter as ‘A talle, proper man of a great deal of fire and vivacity’.
