Joan Collins made her London stage debut in A Doll's House in 1946 and went on to star in films, at first in Britain and later in Hollywood. Her autobiography Past Imperfect appeared in 1978, the same year in which she produced and starred in the film of her sister Jackie's novel The Stud. From 1981 a new calibre of international fame greeted her role as the scheming Alexis Colby in the television series Dynasty.
