This photograph and its pair derive from an album kept by the Brownings' friend in Florence, Georgina Elizabeth Forbes. That of Robert Browning (inscribed by Elizabeth Barrett Browning) is the earliest photograph of the poet in the Gallery's collection while that of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her son, Pen, the only photograph.
