Within six years of marriage the Prince and Princess of Wales had five children. Motherhood enhanced Alexandra's popularity with the British public and brought her closer to the Queen Victoria, who had created a more domestic public image for the monarchy. The portrait of Alexandra carrying Princess Louise on her back became the most popular photograph ever made in England, selling 300,000 copies.
