Mrs Mary Brown was the mistress of Viscount Mountjoy. She married him following the death of her husband. He subsequently became the Earl of Blessington. His second wife, Marguerite Countess of Blessington was painted by Lawrence. Her daughter Harriet was the unhappy wife of the Count d'Orsay.
