This impressive work from Antwerp, one of Europe's primary centres of print production at this time, is evidence of the influence of Eikon Basilike across the continent. The print dates from after the Restoration of the monarchy, when the eldest son of Charles I ascended to the throne as King Charles II.

Upon restoration of the monarchy, pro-royalist and Catholic Irish landlords, notably James Butler, Duke of Ormonde, appeal to the king to restore their lands confiscated during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland.
