Dancers. Betty Blake and Jean Castaner appear in this portrait in costume for the musical comedy The Boy. Blake and Castaner were also photographed by Elliott and Fry in poses from one of their acrobatic dances in the musical. The Boy opened at the Adelphi Theatre in 1917 and had one of the longest runs for any musical up to that time. It was written by Fred Thompson and Percy Greenbank and was based on Arthur Wing Pinero's 1885 play, The Magistrate. The music was by Lionel Monckton and Howard Talbot with lyrics by Adrian Ross and Greenbank. Play Pictorial described the musical numbers as 'a most exhilarating evening's entertainment'.
