'Townshend duties' on imports into the colonies are repealed, except for the duty on tea. However, this concession is soon followed by the Boston Massacre, in which British troops fire into an unruly crowd in Boston, killing five.Captain Cook reaches the eastern coast of Australia, at a place which he names Botany Bay. He discovers the Great Barrier Reef when HMS Endeavour runs onto it. Cook claims New South Wales for the British.

John was the son of Edward Biddulph (1686-1730) & Ann Birch (1700-1756)
Born 13 Feb 1725, Sutton Coalfield, Warwickshire & died June 1798 at Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
He was a younger brother of Sir Theophilus Biddulph, 4th Bt of Westcombe, Kent.
He was of Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
Mentioned in the will of his grandfather Simon Biddulph 1730, being under the age of 21yrs & his brother Theophilus' will 1796.
Admon 10 July 1798, limited admon 14 Aug 1838.
His Indian coin collection can be seen at the American Numismatic Society.
