This haunting self-portrait was made by the artist when he was dying of cancer. The crab placed over his lung has a dark beauty. The portrait appeared in Diagnosis, a posthumous exhibition at Anthony Reynolds Gallery (2006). It investigates what Breakwell called 'the surreality of mundane reality', a recurring theme in his work.
