In a book, James Nayler: the Rebel Saint, 1618-1660, by Emilia Fogelklou, l., 1931 a portrait very similar, yet not identical to yours, is placed as a frontispiece. It is claimed to be 'From the mezzotint by T. Preston. On the page between 260 & 261 there is another portrait of James Nayler. This is of an entirely different man, vaguely remeniscent of busts of Socraties. The same portrait is used as the frontsepiece in a book 'A Quaker from Cromwell's Army: James Nayler, by Mabel Richmond Brailsford, L.,1927. On this occasion it is stated that this portrait was taken from the title page of Klachte Der Quaker Over haren Niewen Martelaer...1657. An anonymous pamphlet in the Biblioteca Thysiana. Does anyone know anything about these two portraits? Both are to be found on the internet. Thank you very much, Dr. Maria Unkovskaya, Oxford.
