The Catholic convert Roger Palmer, Earl of Castlemaine, was James II’s Ambassador Extraordinary to the Odescalchi Pope Innocent XI. With the help of the English artist and collector, John Michael Wright, who had trained in Rome, was fluent in Italian, and had been elected to the Accademia di San Luca, he published an illustrated commemorative account of his Public Entry, first in Italian in 1687, and then in English in 1688, entitled Ragguaglio Della Solenne Comparsa, Fatta in Roma
