Long-term collaborators Jonathan Anderson and Edwin Low were commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to create portraits of leading British athletes to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics. This meticulously arranged formal tableau features members of the British women’s gymnastics team: Beth Tweddle (b.1985; second from the right), Britain’s first World Champion in women’s gymnastics and bronze medallist at the 2012 Games, Rebecca Tunney (b.1996; right), who at the age of fifteen was Britain’s youngest Olympic athlete, and their teammates Hannah Whelan (b.1992; left) and Jennifer Pinches (b.1994; second from the left).
