Peto photographed Murdoch for a profile in the Observer Weekend Review (17 June 1962), which coincided with the publication of her sixth novel An Unofficial Rose (1962). Acknowledging Murdoch's growing reputation as 'the best novelist of her generation' the article's far-ranging topics included her active war work, politics, and the thematic and technical conflicts in her work.
