Lady Diana Abdy was not exactly a leader of fashion. That title is more appropriate for the first Lady Abdy, born Iya de Gay. Diana was photographed wearing the same sun-top by Beaton on the Lido in 1933.
The Abdys bought the Newton Ferrers estate in 1934 and spent two years refurbishing it. The rather raw state of the walls of the East wing suggests that this could have been taken early in that period (it is covered in creeper in the Country Life photographs taken early in the century).
