The sitter is not the 3rd Marquess, but his younger brother, Lord Arthur Moyses William Hill, later 2nd Baron Sandys. His sisters' Journal entry relates: A capital caricature of Arthur... is just come out, he is drawn in a blue great Coat sitting in a Nonchalente attitude on Mama's grey, wch he often rides. Very good indeed & tho' ridiculous very like.
