Photographic self-portraits have been an important element of Lucas's work since the early 1990s. Here we see one from a series of twelve self-portraits produced between 1990 and 1998. In these confrontational images, which complement Lucas's sculptural and installation work, the artist presents an identity which challenges stereotypical representations of gender and sexuality.
