McBean is photographed holding the mask he made for Ivor Novello in The Happy Hypocrite. The photographer Pete Smith was commissioned to take this photograph by Arts East magazine and this was the second occasion on which he met Angus McBean. From 1969 to 1972 Smith worked from McBean's former studio in Endell Street, with his fashion designer wife, Mog.
