O'Neill has said: 'In the early nineties I was asked to Sandringham to take a portrait of the Queen and Prince Philip. I'd taken a few shots when suddenly Brandy, the dorgi - apparently , a cross between a dachshund and a corgi - at their feet sat bolt upright. Neither of them flinched and I managed to get the picture. When I sent them the contacts to my surprise this was the shot they picked out. Their professionalism veiled a great sense of humour.'

The first women priests were ordained in 1994, inspiring the popular sitcom The Vicar of Dibley.John Major is forced to take the pound off the European Exchange Rate Mechanism after Black Wednesday, when currency dealers continued selling sterling despite a dramatic increase in interest rates. The event damaged the Conservative party's reputation irreparably.
