Interviewed in 1985 Paul Tanqueray recalled ' I was terribly thrilled with Tallulah, but there was no one in the world I liked to photograph more than Gertrude Lawrence...I did find my lens and my lighting suited some people and they suited Gertrude Lawrence - she was wonderfully attractive. She used to hum or sing a little song when I photographed her and tease me...'
