Henry Walter Barnett was born in St Kilda, Melbourne and first established his studio's reputation in Australia before opening his a London studio in 1897. Previously he had experienced working for other photographers such as William Downey in London and Taber in San Francisco. Barnett ran his studio at 12, Knightsbridge at Hyde Park Corner up until the early 1920s when he sold the business to Dudley Glanfield.
