According to the donor (letter of 7 August 1876, NPG archives), this picture formed part of Lord Egremont's collection at East Lodge, Brighton. It, or a variant, was engraved by W. Say, published D. Cox, 1815 (example in NPG); the engraving shows slight differences in the stole and the position of one arm. Another portrait of the same sitter by Masquerier was in the Burdett-Coutts sale, Christie's, 4 May 1922 (lot 55).
