This is a version after the full-length portrait of Bentinck by Lane of 1834, commissioned by the Corporation of King's Lynn (Bentinck's constituency), exhibited RA, 1834 (262), and SKM, 1868 (540), etched and engraved by S. W. Reynolds, published Colnaghi, 1848 and 1849 respectively (examples in NPG). A copy of the NPG portrait by Enrico Belli is in the collection of the Duke of Portland, reproduced C. R. L. Fletcher and E. Walker, Historical Portraits, 1700-1850 (1919), IV, facing 236.

Physical descriptionback to top

Healthy complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair. Dressed in a dark stock, white shirt, black suit, red ribbon round his neck, gold watch-chain, jewelled stock-pin. Beyond the papers under his hand is a silver inkstand with a quill pen. Red curtain top left, red curtain(?) lower right. Rest of background dark brown wall.
