A detail of this portrait was engraved by G. J. Stodart, published R. Bentley, 1890 (example in NPG), where the date of the original was given as 1841; this was confirmed by the vendor. The picture has suffered severely from bitumen, and is in very poor condition, but the face is relatively untouched.
