Grey-brown eyes, light brown hair with pink ribbon, wearing a white tunic, a pale-blue-grey dress and blue silk scarf; a quill in her right hand, her right arms resting on a volume titled HISTORY OF ENGLAND.

Purchased from C. W. Radeke 1904.<sup>1

1</sup> Radeke wrote: ‘I own amongst a number of old family portraits which have been handed down in my family for generations, also one which is not of the family but represents the Historian Mrs Markham ... by Angelica Kaufmann.’ (6 January 1904; NPG archive). It was immediately identified by Lionel Cust as Mrs Macaulay.
