The early history of this miniature is unknown, but it appears to be correctly identified. Willshire is dressed in military uniform, and he is shown wearing the Peninsular Medal, the ribbon, badge and star of the order of the Bath, and the ribbon and star of the order of the Doranee Empire (1st Class).

Healthy complexion, brown eyes, grey hair. Dressed in a white shirt, black stock, and a red uniform, with a black collar, a crimson ribbon round his neck, and a crimson and green ribbon across his chest, with variously coloured medals and orders. Background colour bluish-grey.
