While the head and hands seem autograph, much of the detail is studio work, as is particularly apparent in the crown, orb and sceptre. Sold by the National Maritime Museum who already owned a later whole-length of the Queen by Dahl.
The 1937 National Maritime Museum catalogue stated the portrait was dated 1705, but no trace of this remains (or is otherwise recorded). There is a version at Belvoir [1] and a small copy in the Government Art Collection (3594). [2]
