For a life of the sitter see the biography by Richard E. Rex entitled "Alice Muriel Williamson: The Secret History of an American-English Author" (Mill City Press, 2016). The landscape painting on the wall was presented to the Williamsons in 1912 by Irish art connoisseur Sir Hugh Lane on the occasion of their newly completed villa, "La Pausa" at Roquebrune-Cap Martin.
