Barbara Hepworth died as the result of a fire in her studio on 20 May 1975. The following year the Barbara Hepworth Museum opened, in her studio, in St Ives. This portrait was made in front of Four Square (walk through), in her garden, 1971.

Current affairs

The United Kingdom changes to the Decimal System for currency, getting rid of shillings, and guineas and simplifying the denomination of pounds into 100 pence. This brought the British pound sterling in line with other currencies and made computer calculation easier.
