Southport-born swimmer Fran Halsall competed at the Olympic Games in 2008, when aged eighteen, and in 2012. At the 2010 European Championships, she won two gold, two silver and one bronze medal, making her the most successful British swimmer ever at a single championship. Elegantly poised at the edge of the pool at the Loughborough High Performance Centre in Leicestershire where she trains, Halsall’s commitment to her sport is hinted at by the lion from Team GB’s logo tattooed on her foot.
