This and the other photograph of Mansell by Terry O'Neill should not be dated mid-1980s. It shows Mansell here in the racing overalls of the Newman/Haas racing team for whom Mansell drove in 1993 in the United States after winning the Formula One world championship in 1992. Moreover it could be dated more precisely to either January or April 1993 as the location is Phoenix International Raceway, indicated by the PIR on the side of the media/commentary box and can be just seen on the front of the box. Mansell tested there in January and this is the more likely date. He did not take part in the race on 4 April as he had a 170mph crash which hospitalised him on 3 April during practice.
