In this portrait of about 1742, Whitefield is shown preaching indoors, possibly at his newly established Moorfields Tabernacle. The enthralled woman in the foreground may represent Whitefield's future wife, Elizabeth James. More detailed information on this portrait is available in a National Portrait Gallery collection catalogue, John Kerslake's Early Georgian Portraits (1977, out of print).
