This photograph featured on the front page of the Guardian (2nd May 1963), alongside a letter from Churchill announcing that he would be unable to stand for re-election as Conservative MP for Woodford, Epping, following thirty-nine years of political service in this role. Churchill is shown in the photograph with Sir Charles Thomas Wheeler, sculptor and President of the Royal Academy (1956-66) at the Academy's annual banquet at Burlington House.
