1922 is a key year for modernist literature with the publication of James Joyce's novel, Ulysses and T.S. Eliot's poem, The Waste Land. You are no doubt already aware that this photograph, along with many of the photographs from 1922 in Lady Ottoline Morrell Album Collection, Album 4, 1920-24, was most likely taken between 28 May and 5 June 1922. See EM Forster's letters to his mother of 29 May and 4 June 1922 in which he describes two weekends at Garsington Manor, referring to some 30 guests at one stage and mentions several of the sitters in these photographs.
