Sketchbook attributed to William Egley, 1839-43

81 Portraits in set

Album containing 42 loose leaves on which are drawn approximately 350 pencil and watercolour heads on both recto and verso. These portraits are presumably preliminary sketches for potential miniature paintings, probably by the Victorian miniaturist William Egley, and are often annotated with the subject’s name and address or possibly the location of the sitting. They were made between 1839 and 1843, with the recto and verso of each page often dating from different years.
