Henri Cartier-Bresson publishes The Decisive Moment
Henri Cartier-Bresson has made some of the most exquisitely crafted
informal photographs of the past century. He took pictures in Europe,
South and North America and Asia. His 35mm black and white pictures made
with a Leica camera have been defined by the term the Decisive Moment,
the title of the American edition of the book he published in 1952. He
co-founded the influential Magnum photography agency with Robert Capa,
(Chim) David Seymour and George Rodger in 1947. Cartier-Bresson's
photographs are valued as inspired works of art and invaluable social
and political documents. In 1998 the National Portrait Gallery exhibited
a selection of his photographic portraits, Tête à Tête, as part of
London wide celebration of his 90th birthday.
