Wright Bros. make first aeroplane flight
In 1903 Orville Wright piloted the first engine powered flight over a distance of 44 meters at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The breakthrough in design by the Wright Brothers was to herald a new era of aeroplane flight that would radically transform civil communications and military warfare in the twentieth century.
These souvenir postcards were made at makeshift photo-booths that proliferated around the cities of Europe about the time of the First World War. They provide an eloquent and humorous testament to the allure and excitement that aeroplane flight held over the popular imagination.
