Controlling text and window appearance

PC users

Internet Explorer 7

Changing the font size:

  • you can increase increase or decrease the size of your entire window (including text) by using the Zoom option in the View menu, or the "ctrl + +" and "ctrl + -" key combinations on your keyboard. Use "ctrl + 0" to return to the default size settings.
  • you can alternatively increase or decrease the font size by using the Font size option in the View menu

Changing accessibility settings:

  • under the Tools > Internet options menu, the Accessibility option of the General tab gives you the possibility of overwriting certain aspects of our stylesheet to best suit your reading needs.

Enjoying collection images

We are digitising our collections at a rate of approximately 10,000 new images a year. Over 55,000 works are currently illustrated on this website.

Standard and large sized images are in jpg format and readable by all standard browsers. Over 4,000 images are also available as Zoomify images, allowing you to magnify images to enjoy an even closer view of details. This option requires the installation of the latest version the Adobe Flash player plugin, available as a free download from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer

Over 1,000 group portraits also offer a Who's Who option, enabling you to indentify all sitters in these portraits. In addition to the Adobe Flash player plugin, this feature requires javascript to be enabled in your web browser.
