The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or who are currently contributing to British history and culture. With more than 1.5 million visitors each year, the Gallery is one of the country's most important and popular galleries.

Curatorial Internships
The National Portrait Gallery is seeking to appoint four Interns in its Curatorial department in order to provide research related assistance. Two of the posts will involve working directly with the Curator of 16th century collections, one post with the 18th century collections and will require a demonstrable interest in this period. The last post will be working with the Chief Curator.

Visitor Services Assistant
Full-time, part-time and casual appointments
£17,438 per annum
Ensuring our visitors receive a welcoming and informative service to maximise their visit to the Gallery. Applicants should have previous experience of working in a visitor focused environment. We are looking for confident and enthusiastic individuals with the ability to interact with our visitors and who have an interest in the people who have or who are making British history.

Access and Outreach Assistant
Pro rata £20,000 per annum, part time (2.5 days per week)
Fixed for 9 months
You will be responsible for co-ordinating the Gallery's access provision and to assist with the Gallery's outreach work with vulnerable young people, in particularly a new 3-year project with Hospital Schools. Good administration and organisational skills are essential.

Archive & Library Volunteers
The National Portrait Gallery’s Heinz Archive and Library is an important research facility housing a unique collection of reference material relating to British portraiture including a visual resource that contains over 600,000 photographic and other reproductions of portraits and an index that contains over a million references to British portraits.
We have two opportunities for volunteers, available on different days and involving different tasks, to help the department maintain and develop these resources.
